Stadium completed for Argentina’s postponed Copa América

The government of the Argentinian province of Santiago del Estero has delivered the Estadio Único, one of the country’s venues for the postponed co-hosting of the Copa América national team football tournament.

The Copa América was due to take place in Argentina and Colombia from June 12 to July 12, but in March was rescheduled for June 11 to July 11 amid the disruption caused to the global sporting calendar by COVID-19.

Estadio Único, located in the city of Santiago del Estero, is pencilled in to host one match during the competition, the Group A game between Paraguay and Uruguay. With a capacity of around 30,000 seats, and 20 corporate boxes, work on the new stadium (pictured in March) commenced in June 2018.

Along with the Estadio Único, Argentina’s venues for the Copa América are scheduled to be the Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires), Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes (Córdoba), Estadio Ciudad de La Plata (La Plata) and Estadio Malvinas Argentinas (Mendoza).
