Torino pilots new Feel Safe tech

Italian Serie A football club Torino has debuted new technology that provides fast and effective COVID-19 symptom checks to anyone entering the stadium.

The Feel Safe technology was trialled for the first time at Torino’s match against Verona at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino yesterday (Wednesday).

Torino said it is the first club to trial the solution, which is designed by Milan-based Worldwide Exhibition System (WES). With Serie A matches still being played without fans, the technology was used by journalists and stadium personnel at last night’s match.

Feel Safe detects body temperatures and activates facial recognition technology to determine whether people are wearing masks. The system also sprays a cloud of non-toxic, odourless disinfectant over anyone who passes through.

If Feel Safe detects that the body temperature is not in the normal range, it will sound an alarm bell and block the entrance of guests who are potentially contagious.

The system will be used to detect COVID-19 cases among fans when they are free to return to stadia, and it is hoped the technology will speed up entry to the venue.

Luca Gregoli, managing director at WES, said: “Our technology, proudly all Italian, was designed and built in a difficult moment for everyone, but with the aim of starting again with a new impetus, characterised by innovation.”

The Serie A season was suspended for three months due to the COVID-19 outbreak and is scheduled to finish on August 2.
