Telecommunications company Verizon has followed up its recent partnership with the NHL ice hockey league by signing a multi-year deal with the New Jersey Devils and the team’s Prudential Center arena.
As the exclusive 5G and wireless partner of the Devils and Prudential Center, Verizon will make the venue the first 5G-equipped indoor arena in the State of New Jersey. Verizon will also bring 5G innovation to the arena’s Grammy Museum Experience.
The company will work with Prudential Center to install Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband to provide Devils fans and event attendees with access to its cutting-edge technology.
As part of the agreement, Verizon will also create a 5G gaming centre experience within esports team Dignitas’ East Coast Studio adjacent to Prudential Center. Members of the Verizon Up rewards programme will also be offered exclusive access at Prudential Center and Devils events, including VIP entrance access, complimentary food and beverages, merchandise credit and exclusive on-ice photo opportunities.
The deal has been signed after Verizon last month continued its efforts to bring 5G connectivity into US sports venues through a multi-year agreement with the NHL. Verizon will serve as the NHL’s official 5G partner, official wireless services partner and official mobile edge computing (MEC) partner in the US, and also becomes an official technology partner of the league.
Commenting on the Devils deal, Verizon’s chief media officer John Nitti said: “We’re proud to partner with an industry leader like Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment’s New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center to innovate new fan experiences harnessing the power of 5G Ultra Wideband.
“Together, we’re looking forward to shaping the future of live sporting events and entertainment while also giving our Verizon Up members access to exclusive on-site benefits.”
Prudential Center general manager Donna Daniels added: “Our partnership with Verizon marks another landmark day in Prudential Center’s commitment and tradition of providing the most advanced technology and comprehensive guest experience to sports fans and live event goers in New Jersey.
“This new partnership with Verizon and the installation of 5G technology, combined with our record-leading scoreboard, the largest in-arena scoreboard in North America, are assets that will continue to provide fans with a superior live event experience. We look forward to the day when this new innovation can amplify the event-day experience for our fans and guests.”
