MLB teams up with Lysol

Major League Baseball has entered into a multi-year partnership with RB-owned cleaning products brand Lysol to promote health and hygiene at ballparks amid COVID-19.

The partnership will promote healthy habits and disinfection protocols for players, staff and fans. The agreement has been signed as the shortened MLB season draws to a close this month.

From next season, microbiologists and germ-kill experts from Lysol will work with MLB to reinforce ongoing protocols for disinfection in ballparks, with a focus to be placed on high-touch germ hotspots.

Lysol has already started to provide professional-grade disinfection solutions to MLB players and staff in dugouts, bullpens and clubhouses, as well as in fan areas. Globe Life Field is currently hosting the National League Championship Series and will stage the World Series, with 11,500 tickets being made available for each game.

Lysol products are also being included in post-season hotel welcome kits for players, staff and their families, while the company will work with MLB to identify opportunities to provide product and educational materials to schools and promote healthy habits among young people.

Lysol disinfectant spray and disinfecting wipes were recently approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency as being test-effective against COVID-19 when used on hard, non-porous surfaces.

Jon Coyles, MLB’s vice-president of drug, health and safety programmes, said: “The addition of Lysol’s expertise and disinfecting products will help further strengthen efforts to create a safe environment to play Major League Baseball.

“As a brand that is synonymous with cleanliness, the Lysol brand will be an important partner in our management of the evolving pandemic as well as in amplifying health and safety messages around baseball.”

E. Yuri Hermida, RB’s executive vice-president of hygiene for North America, added: “We’re thrilled to partner with MLB to help support and promote hygiene in some of the world’s most iconic sporting venues.

“At Lysol we also understand that one of best weapons against the spread of germs is knowledge, and we look forward to helping MLB develop an even higher standard of cleanliness and disinfection.”
