People on the move: Golden State Warriors, LPGA, PTI Digital and more

Josh Proctor has been named chief financial officer of the Golden State Warriors NBA basketball team and its Chase Center home arena.

Proctor will oversee all financial operations relating to the Warriors and Chase Center. He will report to Warriors president and chief operating officer Rick Welts.

Proctor joins the Warriors after spending six years at US sportswear giant Nike, where he most recently served as the senior director of North America strategy. Proctor joined Nike in 2014 as the finance director for men’s training in North America.

Proctor previously spent four years as vice-president of strategic planning for the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. He played a key role in the financing of the team’s Levi’s Stadium, managing the overall project pro-forma and working closely with the league office/lending group.

Mike Whan, commissioner of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), has notified the organisation’s board of directors that he will transition out of the role in 2021.

No date has been set for Whan’s departure but the LPGA has begun a “thorough and thoughtful” succession process. Whan has served as LPGA commissioner for 11 years.

The LPGA board will establish a Commissioner Selection and Transition Committee and consider candidates from the body’s executive staff, as well as from outside the organisation.

PTI Digital has named Mario Zambas as its new head of venue technology in the EMEA region.

Zambas previously worked for Championship football club Norwich City, where he oversaw the team’s IT transformation and CRM business strategy rollout. He also headed up the IT systems implementation for Dubai Sports City and the management of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.

Zambas (pictured) oversaw IT deployment at the first three editions of Formula 1’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and later helped launch F1’s US Grand Prix in Austin and Russian Grand Prix in Sochi.

Zambas said: “Now more than ever, sports businesses need to innovate and transform internal and external operations to future-proof, rebuild and expand. At PTI, we are in a great position to guide businesses on that journey. In my position as head of venue tech, I’ll be exploring how we can use our combined expertise to initiate change in these organisations.”

Richard Good has started a new position as head of partnership management at Premier League football club West Ham United.

Good joins West Ham after spending 10 years at rival Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, where he most recently worked as senior partnerships manager. Good joined Tottenham in June 2010 as a marketing executive before becoming partnerships manager in January 2012 and then senior partnerships manager in July 2016.

Formula 1 has announced that Frank Arthofer is stepping down from his role as director of digital and licensing after deciding to return home to the US with his wife and newborn son.

Arthofer joined F1 in 2017 after the series was acquired by Liberty Media. He has since led F1’s digital growth and oversaw the launch of F1 TV, the series’ OTT streaming service.

Arthofer will not be directly replaced in the role, with his responsibilities moving into other directorates within Formula 1.

Sports and betting-related services company Sportradar has named Jeffery Yabuki as chairman of its global board, effective immediately,

Yabuki most recently served as executive chairman of financial services and payments technology company Fiserv. He was chief executive of Fiserv from 2005 to July 2020.

Prior to joining Fiserv, Yabuki spent six years at H&R Block, where he was chief operating officer. He also held various leadership roles at American Express.

Chris Morris has started a new role as managing director of destinations and venues at OCS Group UK, a family-owned facilities management company.

The company’s destinations and venues business supports stadiums, arenas, visitor attractions, major events, large retail parks, shopping centres and exhibition centres. Morris most recently worked for Arena Events Group as its chief executive in the UK and Europe and previously served as managing director of Twickenham Experience Limited.
