Oklahoma State strengthens Covermaster partnership

Oklahoma State University (OSU) has strengthened its bond with Covermaster after placing another order with the manufacturer of protective covers for indoor and outdoor sports surfaces.

Located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the research university has been investing in turf covers for its various athletic fields for more than a decade. A relationship forged around Evergreen Radiant turf blankets years ago continues today following another order from OSU turf manager Todd Tribble.

“We began utilising the Evergreen Radiant blankets about 13 years ago to speed up establishment of our perennial ryegrass at our baseball facility in November,” said Tribble. “Many years later we are able to cover our entire softball and baseball fields during overseed time to trap some heat and moisture as we are forced to seed late into the growing season here in Oklahoma.”

Evergreen Radiant winter turf covers have a patented silver lace coating that radiates heat back into the soil, protecting the field from adverse growing conditions and producing quicker spring openings by two to three weeks.

Strong UV inhibitors increase the turf cover’s durability, which is also rot and mildew resistant, while its easy installation allows for a quick response to changing weather conditions.

“I think of the blankets (growth covers) now as our fail safe,” added Tribble. “They have ‘evened’ the playing field when it comes to cool weather in the autumn and spring slowing down our growth.”
