Climate Pledge Arena, Seattle Kraken add Smartsheet as latest partner

Technology solutions firm Smartsheet has agreed a deal to sponsor the Seattle Kraken NHL team and its new Climate Pledge Arena, which is due to open in time for the 2021-22 season.

Smartsheet becomes an official presenting partner of both organisations and will also serve as the title partner for Rink 2 at the Kraken’s soon-to-open training centre in Seattle.

The five-year deal will see Climate Pledge Arena and the Kraken use Smartsheet as a technology platform to power their strategic initiatives. In a statement, the arena said that Smartsheet meets a number of requirements, including flexibility and customisation across complex workflows, a simple interface with a low learning curve, and enterprise-grade security.

Climate Pledge Arena and the Kraken will look to use the partnership to achieve efficiencies with enterprise-wide planning and scheduling, increase agility and time savings with a marketing solution that helps the venue to plan events, and create an “exceptional” customer experience through transparency and visibility.

Allison Bickford, director of corporate partnership activation for the Kraken, said: “We have an internal motto where we challenge every new hire to ‘make us better’ and we expect the same of our partners. Smartsheet is not only making us better, they’re changing the game. They have quickly become an irreplaceable part of our success as we aim to build a world-class arena, brand and fan base from the ground up.”

Anna Griffin, chief marketing officer at Smartsheet, added: “Like every startup and business looking to invent, create and grow at break-neck speed, it’s important that technology doesn’t slow you down. We’ve built Smartsheet to break down silos and spur innovation from anywhere within an organisation, and it’s inspiring to see our mission in action with this new customer and partner.”

Climate Pledge Arena will have a capacity of 18,100 and will open for the 2021-22 NHL season, which will mark the Kraken’s debut campaign. The arena is named after The Climate Pledge, a climate change campaign founded by Amazon and Global Optimism that calls on signatories to be net zero carbon across their businesses by 2040.

With significant investment from Amazon and arena developer Oak View Group (OVG), the venue is expected to be the first net zero carbon certified arena in the world and set a new sustainability bar for the sports and events industry.

The arena will also serve as the home of WNBA basketball team the Seattle Storm and host live music and other events. The project centres on a complete redevelopment of the former KeyArena on the Seattle Center campus.

Climate Pledge Arena recently agreed a deal for Mexican beer brand Modelo to become its official and exclusive import beer. The deal will see the opening of two Modelo-branded bars within the arena, as well as a brand presence at the Kraken Training Centre’s bar and restaurant.
