Forest Green announces Fully Charged as new stadium sponsor

Fully Charged, a YouTube channel dedicated to clean energy and electric vehicles, has acquired naming rights to The New Lawn, home of English League Two football club Forest Green Rovers.

As part of the deal, the stadium will be called The Fully Charged New Lawn for the 2021-22 season, which gets underway this weekend.

The deal has been announced after Forest Green launched a contest for naming rights to the stadium back in June. The club, which has launched a number of eco-friendly initiatives in the past, was seeking a company that “advances the environmental cause”.

Fully Charged replaces drinks manufacturer Innocent as the stadium’s naming-rights sponsor. Innocent assumed naming rights last summer.

Forest Green said that more than 100 groups had applied to sponsor the stadium since the competition was launched in June. The club said that Fully Charged has been selected thanks to its work in “educating, encouraging and explaining the world of electric vehicles and clean energy technology”.

Fully Charged was founded in 2010 by Robert Llewellyn, an actor and presenter known for his work on Red Dwarf and Scrapheap Challenge. The channel has since amassed over 800,000 subscribers on YouTube and has grown to encompass a live event series.

As part of its deal with Forest Green, Fully Charged will be promoted throughout the season, while the club will also appear in content posted on the channel.

“It’s a real privilege, for what began as a humble YouTube channel, to be associated with a pioneering organisation like Forest Green Rovers,” said Llewellyn. “We love spreading the word about clean energy and electric vehicles and this will really help us get to a larger audience around the world.

“The way that Forest Green Rovers is revolutionising sport is so important, in that it encourages people and businesses to be more sustainable.”

Dale Vince, Forest Green chairman, added: “We’re really looking forward to working with the Fully Charged team this season – like FGR they’re showing a global audience that there’s another way to live. Together we can spread the word about electric vehicles, clean energy and green football. The Fully Charged New Lawn has a great ring to it as well.”

Forest Green last week announced details of what it claimed to be the world’s most environmentally friendly stadium digital platform through a partnership with venue technology specialists ADI.

The platform will result in the installation of the world’s first renewable energy-powered digital perimeter system, as well as a new scoreboard at The New Lawn.
