DW Stadium brings in new food and facilities partner

English Football League club Wigan Athletic has announced an 11-year-agreement with food services and facilities management company Sodexo.

The deal will cover hospitality catering, conference and event sales catering at the DW Stadium, which is home to both Wigan Athletic and Rugby League side Wigan Warriors.

Malachy Brannigan, chief executive of Wigan Athletic, added: “Following an extensive search for the stadium’s first venue partner since Phoenix 2021 Ltd obtained the club, I am delighted to announce Sodexo as the successful bidder.

“The experience of Sodexo was a major factor in determining the decision and we look forward to a long and healthy partnership.”

The partnership will endeavour to source food and beverages from local suppliers with a focus on sustainability, as well as hiring staff from the local and surrounding area. As well as this, the partnership will result in supporting local charities and social impact projects.

Sodexo Sports and Leisure UK business development director Nick Byrom said: “It’s an exciting time for Wigan Athletic fans under new ownership and we thank the leadership team at the Club for selecting Sodexo to be their long-term venue partner.

“We are confident we will deliver an outstanding guest experience for both Latics [Wigan Athletic] and Warriors fans on a match day.

“The facilities at the DW Stadium are excellent and with some additional investment from Sodexo over the next 12 months we feel that these will create some of the best event facilities in the area.”

Wigan Athletic was taken over by Bahraini group Phoenix 2021 Ltd earlier this year.
