WWE SummerSlam heads to Nissan Stadium

Nissan Stadium, home of the Tennessee Titans, will host the WWE’s SummerSlam in 2022, continuing the wrestling promotion’s trend of awarding hosting rights for the event to an NFL venue.

The event on July 30 will mark the first time that the WWE SummerSlam has taken place in Nashville. The SummerSlam is regarded as WWE’s second biggest event, behind WrestleMania.

This year’s SummerSlam took place at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. Allegiant Stadium became the first NFL venue to host the event.

The WWE has once again opted to stage the SummerSlam at an open-air NFL stadium. Prior to this year’s event at Allegiant Stadium, the SummerSlam had predominantly been held at indoor arenas.

WWE has also announced that next year’s WrestleMania at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, will take place over two nights on the weekend of April 2-3.

The 2022 calendar will begin on January 1 with an event at State Farm Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

Nick Khan, WWE president and chief revenue officer, said: “Since returning to live events this past July, our fans have graciously expressed a tremendous appetite to attend WWE shows. As they begin to make plans for next year, we wanted to make sure that the 2022 schedule and locations of our pay-per-views were made available to them.”

The 2021 SummerSlam marked one of the first full-capacity events at Allegiant Stadium, which opened last year.
