Daktronics installation to offer ‘major league experience’ at Tech CU Arena

San Jose Barracuda, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of NHL team San Jose Sharks, is set to receive a “major league experience” through the installation of LED technology from audiovisual systems manufacturer Daktronics at its new arena.

A new continuous centrehung system, four ribbon displays and a marquee display will be installed at Tech CU Arena this spring as the expansion to the Sharks Ice facility prepares to open for the 2022 ice hockey season.

“Aside from the game itself, the most import thing in an arena is the scoreboard,” said Barracuda director of business operations, Eric Grundfast. “Our organisation has worked with Daktronics for several years at SAP Center and to get a scoreboard of this quality at Tech CU Arena is a tremendous development for the organisation and is going to make the fan experience as good as any in the AHL.”

As fans arrive at the new arena, they will be greeted by a marquee display measuring six feet high by 11 feet wide and featuring 10-millimetre pixel spacing. This display will welcome guests to events and provide information about all upcoming events.

Once inside the arena, visitors will be informed and entertained by four main video displays on the centrehung, each measuring approximately 12.5 feet high by 21.5 feet wide. Connecting the corners of the centrehung for one continuous visual experience are four additional displays, each measuring 13 feet high by 5.5 feet wide. All centrehung displays feature tight 5.9-millimeter pixel spacings.

Around the seating bowl, four ribbon displays will be installed. Two ribbons will measure nearly three feet high by 182 feet in length and two will measure nearly three feet high by 51 feet long. These displays will feature 15-millimeter line spacing while providing supplemental in-game data and graphics to the centrehung system, as well as the opportunity to highlight commercial partners throughout events.

Daktronics will also be including a complete Show Control solution. This control system provides a combination of display control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware.

“This installation will provide a major league experience for the San Jose Sharks minor league team, the Barracuda,” said Robin Hall, Daktronics regional manager.

“We’re grateful to continue our partnership with the Sharks organisation and to provide them with the best LED products available in the sports industry. This new installation will be first-class and will provide an excellent experience for the fans, players and partners for years to come.”
