American Family Field to stage historic college basketball event

American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers Major League Baseball team, will host a college basketball double-header this year, marking a first for the venue.

The stadium will host the Aurora Health Care Brew City Battle on November 11. The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s men’s team will take on Stanford, while its women’s team will face Kansas State.

The event will mark the first basketball games ever played at American Family Field, which opened in 2001. It will also be the first time in eight years that a college basketball game has been held at a baseball stadium.

The basketball court will be positioned across the infield, with the centre court to be located near the pitcher’s mound. Temporary seating will be installed just beyond second base, while additional field-level seating will be set up around the court to provide an enhanced fan experience.

Nearly all of the existing seating areas at American Family Field will also be made available for fans wishing to attend the event. Tickets will go on sale on July 26.

Rick Schlesinger, the Brewers’ president of business operations, said: “This is going to be a day that Wisconsin sports fans can’t miss. We have hosted many diverse events at American Family Field, from professional soccer to bowling, and we are excited to bring the electric atmosphere of Wisconsin Badgers basketball into one of the best fan environments in sports.”

Chicago-based events and marketing agency Intersport has led the creative concepting for the event and will handle all ticketing, marketing and operations.

The last college basketball game to take place at a baseball stadium was San Diego vs San Diego State at Petco Park, home of MLB’s Padres, in 2015.
