ArcelorMittal takes naming rights to new Polish sports complex

The Polish division of steel production giant ArcelorMittal has acquired naming rights to Zagłębiowskiego Parku Sportowego (ZPS), a new sports complex in the Polish city of Sosnowiec.

Set to open in October, ZPS will include a 11,600-seat stadium for I Liga football club Zagłębie Sosnowiec, a 3,502-seat arena and a 2,545-seat winter sports stadium.

While the name of the facilities has yet to be determined, ArcelorMittal Poland, which has its own production plant in Sosnowiec, has agreed a five-year deal to brand all three facilities. The company will pay PLN1.5m (£267,000/€319,000/$325,000) per year for the rights.

Arkadiusz Chęciński, Mayor of Sosnowiec, said: “Previously, we invested a lot in cultural facilities, now it’s time for sports, entertainment and large outdoor events.

“The interest of ArcelorMittal Poland, one of the most important companies operating for years in Sosnowiec and throughout Poland, shows that it is a successful investment. I am glad that ArcelorMittal Poland wants to show that it is here not only to produce and give jobs, but also to give its employees, residents of Zagłębie Dąbrowskie, the opportunity to use such facilities and the possibility of entertainment in perfect conditions.

“This is an important day for us, I am glad that such a large company is with us.”

ArcelorMittal’s steel has been used to develop the three ZPS facilities, with Adam Preiss, financial director and board member of ArcelorMittal Poland, adding: “As you can see, there is a lot of steel on all objects.

“For our company, the priority is to act in the region not only as an employer, but also to support local initiatives. The connection with Zagłębiowskiego Parku Sportowego is part of our strategy and we want our company to be associated with sports and cultural events.”

In April 2019, it was reported that a contractor had been selected to deliver ZPS, with work commencing that month and having continued through COVID-19. The complex will also include restaurants, retail outlets, a sports museum and other attractions.
