People on the move: Legends, ASM Global, Populous and more

Premium experiences company Legends has appointed Kirta Carroll as president of its global merchandise division.

Carroll will lead Legends Global Merchandise, which is a fully integrated vertical solution operating brick-and-mortar, pop-ups, e-commerce and in-venue retail experiences for a range of sports properties, including the NFL, Major League Baseball, NASCAR and UFC.

Carroll previously spent 11 years at Foot Locker, most recently as vice-president and global general merchandising manager for its women’s division.

Stadium design and architectural firm Populous has named Charlie Brooks as its communications and marketing director.

Brooks joins from Premier League football club Manchester United, where he was communications director overseeing both football and corporate communications. He joined the club in 2018 having previously held a number of senior communications leadership roles at Nike.

At Populous, his role will focus on EMEA projects and activity, as well as elevating the company’s global strategic communications and marketing strategy across its regional portfolio.

Euroleague Basketball has named Dejan Bodiroga and Marshall Glickman as its new president and acting chief executive, respectively.

The changes to the organisation’s senior management team come as founder and chief executive Jordi Bertomeu, who had served in the role for 22 years, leaves the body. Bodiroga is a former player who won three EuroLeague titles, while Glickman is chief executive of G2 Strategic.

The New York Mets Major League Baseball team has announced that Sandy Alderson will step down as president at the conclusion of a search for his successor.

Alderson will shift to a new role as special advisor to owners Steve and Alex Cohen and the senior leadership team.

ASM Global has appointed Malcolm Caddies, grounds manager at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, as the new general manager of sports turf and landscape at Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.

Caddies (pictured) will take up his new role in October, with the job to include leading the operation and management of the sports field and landscape at the complex. Kai Tak Sports Park is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2024.

The XFL American football league has announced the appointment of Jason Gonella as senior vice-president of ticket sales.

Gonella will lead the planning and development of ticket sales, services and operations for the league and each of its eight-team markets. He will report to Janet Duch, chief marketing and content officer.

Oliver Wright has joined ASM Global as a premium sales director in Europe after leaving Premier League club Everton.

Wright worked at Everton for over six years, most recently as head of premium sales, hospitality and catering. He has also worked at Manchester United and Leicester City in the past.
