Climate Pledge Arena, home of the Seattle Kraken NHL team, has announced a wider roll-out of Amazon One palm-recognition technology at the venue.

The technology will now be available at three concession areas inside the arena, giving guests the option to pay for food and beverages with their palm.

The areas join the four existing Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One-enabled stores at Climate Pledge Arena, which opened last year. The stores enable guests to take what they want and leave without stopping to check out.

As part of the new roll-out, Amazon One will also be available as a standalone payment option for guests visiting the Modelo Cantina, Metropolitan Grill and 1st Ave Nachos outlets at Climate Pledge Arena. Guests can enroll to Amazon One at kiosks located outside the three areas, or at any of the Just Walk Out-enabled stores.

Amazon One’s expansion as a point-of-sale option at the venue is a collaboration between Amazon, hospitality partner Delaware North, the Kraken, and Oak View Group, which owns and operates the arena.

A total of 18 Amazon One devices will be available as a payment option at the three concession areas. Fans were able to sample the devices for the first time during the Kraken’s home season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.

Jeff Wilkinson, chief information officer at Delaware North, said: “It’s an easy decision for us to support technology solutions that guests love and find easy to use. With four Just Walk Out technology-enabled stores and Amazon One at a combined seven areas, Climate Pledge Arena is quickly becoming a hub for tech-savvy fans, and we’re thrilled to help enable a seamless payment experience for them with this latest expansion.”

Dilip Kumar, vice-president of Amazon Web Service applications, added: “We are excited Climate Pledge Arena is doubling down on their commitment to enable a fast and frictionless shopping experience for their guests during concerts and games.

“Expanding the use of Amazon One as a payment option at Climate Pledge Arena will help reduce lines for guests waiting to pay, as well as remove the need for them to carry a wallet, handbag, or credit card whenever they want to step away from the action to purchase food and refreshments.”

Seattle-headquartered Amazon holds naming rights to the arena through The Climate Pledge, a collaboration with Global Optimism that calls on signatories to be net zero carbon across their businesses by 2040. Just Walk Out technology launched at the arena in September 2021.

Amazon One technology launched in September 2020 and was initially designed to boost the customer shopping experience in retail outlets before being introduced at sports stadiums and arenas.

Lumen Field, home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, recently opened a new store powered by Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One. The store opened in collaboration with Lumen Field’s hospitality partner, Levy, and DBK Studio, Levy’s innovation studio.
