State Farm Arena, home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, is set to hold the funeral of rapper Takeoff, who was killed in a shooting in Houston last week.
Takeoff, who was a member of the group Migos, was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia and was a passionate Hawks fan. Following his death, the Hawks paid tribute to the rapper, hailing him as a “pillar of Atlanta culture”.
It has now been reported by WSB-TV2 that Takeoff’s funeral will be held at State Farm Arena on Friday. The service will be officiated by Jesse Curney III, the pastor from New Mercies Christian Church in Lilburn.
Although State Farm Arena has a capacity of 21,000, it remains unclear whether the funeral will be a public event. Canadian rapper Drake has postponed a show at New York’s Apollo Theater to pay his respects.
Takeoff was killed outside a Houston bowling alley on November 1. He was aged 28.
