The Polish city of Rzeszów has announced a tender for the design and construction of a new football and athletics stadium.
The stadium would have a capacity of around 7,900 and would feature a roof and a covered athletics track. The venue would also be capable of hosting other events such as music gigs.
The project is being financed by Poland’s Ministry of Sport and Tourism, which has provided PLN60m (£11.3m/€12.8m/$13.5m), as well as the city of Rzeszów and the local government.
It is hoped the stadium will open in 2025 and will meet requirements of the Polish Athletics Association and Polish Football Association, ensuring major events can be held at the venue.
Mayor of Rzeszów Konrad Fijołek said: “Today we have a nice idea, but to get to it we had to untie a real Gordian knot that had grown around this project in previous years.
“Fortunately, we were able to purchase the land necessary for construction and prepare a concept for a stadium that will meet both athletics and football requirements. I am glad that we have support at the central level in our pursuit of this investment.”
The city hopes to find a contractor to build the stadium in the first half of 2023.
