Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Atlético Mineiro has set April 15 as the date for the first official event at its new Arena MRV.

Atlético is planning a series of five events under the banner of BH Festival, with the first of these, entitled ‘Nascimento do Campo’, now confirmed. According to the Globo Esporte website, this event will feature the installation of the goalposts, marking of the field lines and the first official shot on goal.

On March 25, when the club’s 115th anniversary is celebrated, a separate event will be held at Arena MRV, but this will be restricted to directors, management and employees.

Atlético announced last month that the BH Festival events would be postponed, stating that it took the decision in an effort to guarantee the best possible experience for the public, considering that the stadium’s surrounding road works are not yet finished.

BH Festival is set to conclude with a friendly match against an overseas club, the identity of which is yet to be decided. It is expected that competitive football will not be played at Arena MRV until August.

Work began on the 46,000-seat Arena MRV in April 2020, with the stadium (pictured last month), which was given the green light in December 2019, located in the northwest region of Belo Horizonte.

The facility was originally expected to be completed last year, but delays in construction work has pushed this back to mid-2023.
