Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club São Paulo has entered into a partnership with Crypto Blockchain Industries (CBI) to create a metaverse experience custom-built for the team.

The world will sit within the ‘Football at AlphaVerse’ universe and will include audiovisual content, mini-games and community experiences.

The São Paulo experience will allow visitors to travel to different virtual sites involving the club, whose Estádio do Morumbi will be reproduced in 3D. Fans will be able to purchase virtual seats, granting access to numerous real-life opportunities including the possibility to win match tickets.

The São Paulo training centre will also be reproduced in 3D for the first time as part of the experience, which will enable interaction between supporters.

Wladimir Castro, São Paulo’s chief innovation officer, said: “We are thrilled to develop this project alongside the CBI team. For us, it is a great opportunity to bring to our fans brand new experiences and to generate new revenue sources for our club.”

Frederic Chesnais, chief executive of CBI, added: “Joining forces with São Paulo FC is an honour and a major milestone for Crypto Blockchain Industries, as well as a symbol of our commitment to excellence.

“We are thrilled to partner with such a great club and look forward to leveraging the power of technology to drive innovation in the sports industry and, more importantly, enhance the fan experience while staying true to the values of this great club and of its supporters.”

The world is scheduled to open during the 2023-24 season.

CBI recently teamed up with Real Betis to launch a similar experience for fans of the LaLiga club.
