Argentine Primera División football team Club Atlético Unión has presented preliminary plans to expand the Estadio 15 de Abril.
The stadium has a current capacity of 28,000 but CA Unión, which is based in the city of Santa Fe, is hoping to increase this to beyond 30,000.
Members of the club’s board of directors have met with Mariano Granato, secretary general of the Municipality of Santa Fe, and other city officials to present a preliminary draft for the project.
CA Unión has requested that the city arbitrate the necessary legislative and administrative procedures so that the project can comply with regulatory requirements. If the club is given the green light to proceed, the project would bring the stadium in line with new FIFA requirements.
The club plans on increasing the capacity of the Estadio 15 de Abril, providing greater comfort for fans, and guaranteeing better security. A “substantial” improvement has been proposed for the north side of the stadium’s façade.
CA Unión said the proposals will make a major contribution to the Estadio 15 de Abril’s immediate urban environment and create the opportunity for the venue to host other sporting events and large-scale shows.
