Kyrgyzstan to receive 45,000-seat stadium

Plans have been revealed for a new 45,000-seat stadium in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

The project has been announced today (Friday) by Kanybek Tumanbaev, Head of the Central Asian nation’s Presidential Affairs Management Office.

Writing on Facebook, Tumanbaev said the project has been commissioned by President Sadyr Japarov. The venture will be led by Chairman of the State National Security Committee and president of the Kyrgyz Football Union, Kamchybek Tashiev.

In May, FIFA president Gianni Infantino called for a new national football stadium to be built in Kyrgyzstan to aid the development of the sport in the country. Infantino met Japarov in Bishkek during a tour of Central Asian member associations.

Kyrgyzstan’s national team currently does not have its own dedicated stadium. The team plays matches at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek but the venue is also used by local clubs Dordoi Bishkek and Alga Bishkek.

The new stadium will be built in Orok, a village outside of Bishkek, and Tumanbaev said today: “Its design (project) work was done in cooperation with well-known foreign companies. The architectural design is adapted to our national values and gives the impression of a yurt.

“In accordance with modern requirements, all elements such as shops, recreation and parking spaces were considered in the stadium. Hopefully, we will start construction work in the next few days.

“With this, our head of state encourages our people to lead a healthy life and creates conditions for talented athletes.”
