Cloud-driven networking company Extreme Networks has been selected to deploy wireless and analytics solutions for Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund.

The new Wi-Fi 6E-ready network, which will be deployed in partnership with Bell Computer-Netzwerke, will modernise experiences throughout team facilities and the Signal Iduna Park stadium.

Extreme said the partnership will create a foundation for future technology such as in-seat concessions ordering and in-stadium augmented reality and virtual reality. The deal has been signed ahead of this summer’s UEFA European Championship, at which Signal Iduna Park will be a host venue.

The NBA’s Phoenix Suns and WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury have teamed up with global venture capital firm Cleveland Avenue to introduce the latter’s portfolio of technology brands at Footprint Center.

Footprint Center, the home of the two teams, will roll out artificial intelligence and robotics initiatives as part of plans to establish the arena as a hub for innovation, sustainability and unique culinary experiences.

Cleveland Avenue is also one of the principal owners of Footprint, the official sustainability partner of the Suns and Mercury, which acquired naming rights to the arena in July 2021. Cleveland Avenue’s food and beverage technologies will be integrated into suites and concessions alongside Footprint’s eco-friendly packaging solutions by the end of the year.

The New Jersey Devils NHL team has announced a multi-year extension of its partnership with Verizon.

As part of the deal, Verizon will provide technology for wireless connectivity and retail convenience to enhance the fan experience and improve arena operations at Prudential Center.

Verizon is deploying Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, Verizon Private 5G Network and Wi-Fi 6/6E to support Prudential Center’s ability to host a wide range of large-scale events, concerts and games.

Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC has announced that location technology application what3words will be integrated into its digital platforms in a move designed to enhance the guest experience at BMO Stadium.

What3words provides users with a simple way to communicate precise locations, and BMO Stadium has added the what3words addresses of key locations to LAFC’s digital platforms. For example, ///spice.dunes.cowboy takes you to the precise location of LAFC’s official team store.

LAFC is the first major-league sports team in the US to integrate what3words into its digital ecosystem. Guests at BMO Stadium will be able to find their way around the stadium more easily, and use the what3words app to remember where they parked, locate their vehicle, or identify their own immediate location, making it easier to meet up with friends.
