Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders, hosted its biggest event to date in February as the Super Bowl came to town.

The 65,000-capacity venue opened in the summer of 2020 after being built at a cost of $1.9bn (£1.5bn/€1.8bn).

Allegiant Stadium is one of the flagship projects of WJHW, a PMY company. Collaborating with architectural firms MANICA and HNTB, as well as CAA Icon Venues and Mortenson-McCarthy contractors, WJHW played a pivotal role in ensuring the stadium’s success from conception to completion.

With striking architectural design and seamless integration of cutting-edge technology, Allegiant Stadium has fan engagement and venue excellence at the centre of its design. As visitors step into the bowl, they are greeted by an immersive experience that respects the rich history and traditions of the Raiders franchise while embracing the latest advancements in technology.

When fans tour the stadium, they find technology thoughtfully executed to serve their needs. This includes high-quality sound and AV on concourses, seamless Wi-Fi throughout the building, accessible wayfinding, and plenty of displays to ensure no replay is missed while queuing for a beverage. Throughout the project, WJHW provided a range of services, including:

  • Acoustics: Creating optimal sound environments for every area of the stadium, ensuring unparalleled audio experiences.
  • Audiovisual: Implementing state-of-the-art LED displays, projection systems, and sound reinforcement solutions to enhance fan engagement.
  • IT services: Designing and implementing robust network infrastructure, Wi-Fi systems, and distributed antenna systems (DAS) to support seamless connectivity.
  • Security systems: Installing advanced surveillance, intrusion detection, and access control systems to ensure the safety and security of all occupants.
  • Broadcast infrastructure: Developing cutting-edge broadcast infrastructure and production facilities to support media coverage and entertainment events.
  • Exterior signage: Designing and installing an exterior mesh LED display marquee to captivate visitors and promote events.

The brief from Allegiant Stadium included strict budgetary guidelines and expedited timelines. Collaborative efforts, meticulous planning and a true partnership focused on innovation ultimately drove success. The journey with Allegiant Stadium began in late 2016 and despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, WJHW delivered a world-class venue on schedule.

WJHW is able to leverage this expertise and experience to deliver “similarly exceptional” projects in the UK, catering to the evolving needs of sports and entertainment venues.
