When the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup came to the US for the first time, GoVision was enlisted by PMY Group to provide an in-stadium video experience worthy of one of the world’s most-watched sporting events.

Initially, GoVision was contracted by PMY Group to build two 27’ x 60’ ft. LED screens on 120-foot-high scaffolding towers at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium – a pop-up, temporary venue and engineering marvel. The massive screens required three days to build at the largest venue to host the 2024 Cricket World Cup. The Long Island site hosted nearly 165,000 fans throughout the course of the tournament.

In addition, GoVision provided two of its GoBig 14’ x 24’ mobile units for the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in North Texas, which drew another 20,000 enthusiastic fans to its matches.

Extreme weather

The first unit was placed for the entire run of the tournament. The second GoBig was called in at the last minute after extreme weather created issues at the stadium. In less than two hours from the call, GoVision’s team moved the unit from its warehouse in Argyle, Texas, to Grand Prairie and had it fully set-up and operating.

“We were honoured to be invited to work the first Cricket World Cup to be hosted by the United States, including the opening match on Long Island,” said GoVision chief executive and partner Kevin Faciane. “But when we got word at the eleventh hour that a second screen was needed in Grand Prairie, we showed just how nimble and quick we could be. That’s the live entertainment biz, and the GoVision team was ready as always to answer the call!”

Fan engagement

The US is a priority growth market for the ICC, so staging the best possible event was paramount. The U.S. hosted 16 of the 55 tournament matches, including the opener between the US and Canada on June 1, drawing 190,000 total fans. The ICC noted the “incredible fan engagement” and “unprecedented interest in cricket in the USA from sports fans.”

“We put together an A-list team to help bring the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup to life across three U.S. venues, and GoVision was an integral part of that,” said Logan Meier, vice president – USA of PMY Group. “As expected, the GoVision team went above and beyond to ensure the fan experience was truly outstanding by supporting the event with incredible displays. We’re so grateful for their flexibility and commitment to delivering at the highest level.”
