A three-strong list of tenders have been shortlisted to deliver the A$309m (£162m/$205m/€191m) redevelopment to Penrith Stadium which serves as home of Australian National Rugby League (NRL) club Penrith Panthers.

A W Edwards Pty Ltd, Hansen Yuncken, and John Holland are the three shortlisted candidates, as reported by The Western Weekender.

“I am pleased to see another milestone reached for Penrith Stadium and look forward to seeing the feedback from locals bring this project to life,” said New South Wales Deputy Premier Prue Car.

“Not only does this upgrade promise a better stadium experience, it will also create more opportunities for concerts and events for western Sydney residents.”

Penrith Stadium, which is also known as BlueBet Stadium as part of a sponsorship deal with the betting company, has a capacity of 22,500. Under the draft plans outlined, the capacity will be increased to 25,000.

The NSW Government said that the new stadium will transform the site into a modern venue for sport and entertainment. A new western grandstand is due to be built, while the eastern grandstand will undergo a significant upgrade.

The grandstands will be reconfigured to be steeper in order to maximise seating with better views between try lines, and more food and beverage outlets will also be made available to reduce wait times on game days.

Other upgrades will include new scoreboards, lighting and sound systems, while four new changing rooms will be fitted to help grow female representation.

The successful contractor is due to begin the main works in early 2025 before the project’s expected completion in 2026.

More than 500 jobs will be created during the construction phase with a further 650 to be supported once operational.

Infrastructure NSW has enlisted architecture firm Populous and landscape architect Tyrell Studio to work with the successful contractor.

“Today is a major milestone for the Penrith Stadium project, which aims to deliver the best suburban stadium in Australia to improve the family and fan experience on game days and year-round,” said New South Wales Sports Minister Steve Kamper.

Once completed, the new stadium will be operated by Venues NSW, which already runs several venues across the state, including Accor Stadium, the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium, McDonald Jones Stadium, WIN Stadium and CommBank Stadium.
