Guernsey’s new £10m ($12.7m/€11.8m) football stadium is to open its doors in March 2025 after almost a decade in the making.

The venue, which will be known as Victoria Park, is to be the first ever permanent home for the Guernsey FA. Victoria Park, which will have 600 covered seats, is also to be the new home ground of club side Guernsey FC.

The stadium was designed by Guernsey-based architects Lovell Ozanne and is managed by Jason Powers Consultants.

In addition to the covered seats, there is space for standing spectators, a 3G pitch and training area, and a clubhouse.

“After much speculation, we’re thrilled to finally share the new name and branding for the stadium with the local community,” said Victoria Park director Rob Jones.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming football players and fans of all ages through Victoria Park’s gates next spring and realising this exciting new era for Guernsey football.”

The £10m cost of the project is being funded by a £1.175m grant from the Football Foundation – a charity partnership between the Premier League, the Football Association and the UK Government – and private donations. Additional funding has come from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, and a £250,000 HQ grant from the Football Association.

The project has been in the planning for almost 10 years, but was derailed by the Covid pandemic. Construction work began in 2023.

“This marks such an exciting new chapter for the GFA and for local football. Victoria Park’s facilities are second-to-none, and it’s great to be able to offer players of all ages and abilities such a fantastic venue to encourage and support their love of the sport,” said Guernsey FA chief executive Gary Roberts.

The name was chosen to reflect the stadium’s location on Victoria Avenue. In addition to the new name, a green logo has been unveiled.

It is made up of three Vs that combine to form a circular shape which is said to be an abstract reflection of both blades of grass and a football.

A new Victoria Park website and social media platforms have also been launched, which will keep fans updated as the project nears completion.

“As a club, to have a home ground of Victoria Park’s calibre is an absolute game-changer; it’s something we’ve always dreamed of,” said manager and club director of Guernsey FC Tony Vance.

“Having the security of an all-weather pitch and premium facilities means our players have the best quality training and match play available – and I’m sure our fans will appreciate the opportunity to visit our stylish new home ground.”

Guernsey FC currently play home games at Footes Lane, a 5,000 capacity multi-use facility in St Peter Port. The stadium is also used by Guernsey Rugby Club, has an athletics track, and was a venue for the 2003 and 2023 Island Games.
