Panathinaikos BC is set to become the first basketball team to permanently introduce ASB GlassFloor technology at its home arena.

The Athens-based team has partnered with Globalsat on the venture. ASB GlassFloor is a full-LED video sports surface, endorsed by Euroleague Basketball, that allows organisers and venues to introduce interactive applications.

Panathinaikos will regularly host EuroLeague games on the court at the OAKA Arena, with the technology to be permanently installed in time for the start of the season in October. The concept was debuted by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) at the U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain last year.

Vasilis Papadopoulos, Globalsat founder and chief executive, said: “This new glass floor will open up exciting opportunities for interactive experiences and dynamic presentations, setting a new standard for multi-functional sports venues and showcasing how technology can revolutionise sports events.

“Furthermore, this partnership highlights the significant value of B2B collaborations, paving the way for innovative commercial relationships across Europe and is fully aligned with our strategy to empower the digital transformation of the enterprise world.”

The Kansas City Royals Major League Baseball team has introduced facial recognition technology for fans attending games at Kauffman Stadium.

Royals fans will be given the choice to sample MLB Go-Ahead Entry, a hands-free, free-flow entry experience that is accessible via the MLB Ballpark app.

MLB Go-Ahead Entry allows fans aged 18 and over to walk through dedicated lanes, have their face scanned and enter the stadium seamlessly. The technology is already used by the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros.

Digital security company The Kudelski Group has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Skidata business to Assa Abloy, a Swedish provider of access solutions.

Skidata, a provider of access management solutions, is headquartered in Salzburg. Once the sale of the company is completed, Skidata will form part of the Business Segment Pedestrian within the Entrance Systems Division of Assa Abloy.

Skidata said the deal will open new growth opportunities for the company across Europe, North America and other global markets.
