The athletics department at Duke University in North Carolina has announced plans for Devils Deck, a new tailgating space at Wade Wallace Stadium.
Devils Deck will be available for the 2024 season and will offer fans an all-inclusive tiered deck spanning seven sections. It will accommodate just over 1,500 fans and will seek to provide a “unique social experience” for guests to continue tailgating while watching the game.
Wade Wallace Stadium serves as the home of the Duke Blue Devils, the university’s American football team. The renovations to the north end of the stadium will decrease its official seating capacity from 40,004 to 35,018.
The Devils Deck concept was developed in collaboration with WME Sports as part of Duke’s ongoing efforts to help enhance its brand and the experiences associated with it. The free-flowing space is designed for both individual fans and groups and features standing and non-reserved seating areas.
Fans will be able to enjoy all-you-can-eat tailgate food and non-alcoholic beverages, access to purchase beer and seltzer, and availability to rotating yard games. Devils Deck will also feature an in-game DJ.
Passes for Devils Deck will begin at $45 (£35/€42) per person if purchased at least 24 hours prior to kick off or $55 if purchased on the day of the game. The Duke student rate is $35 per student.
Duke head coach Manny Diaz said: “I saw from afar last season how a great atmosphere can impact games at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium. This year, we wanted to take our gameday experience to a new level.
“With the addition of the Devils Deck, fans get access to an exclusive fun tailgating atmosphere, while still being inside the stadium to watch the game. Thank you to Chris Alston our executive director of marketing and to Bob Weiseman our deputy director of athletics for spearheading this exciting project.”
Duke will announce additional gameday enhancements over the coming weeks. The Blue Devils’ first home game of the season is against Elon on August 30.
