The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has renamed centre court at Queen’s Club to The Andy Murray Arena in tribute to Sir Andy Murray who retired from tennis last week.

Murray ended his 19-year professional career at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games which included a record five singles and one doubles title at the Queen’s Club Championships.

“As a result of the incredible legacy he left behind at the tournament, we have announced that from 2025, the centre court seating arena at the LTA’s London Championships at the Queen’s Club, will be known as ‘The Andy Murray Arena’,” read an LTA statement.

Murray has been a vocal supporter of women’s tennis throughout his career. He will see his newly named court in action in June next year when the Women’s Tennis Association makes its return to the club after a 52-year hiatus.

“Andy is the greatest tennis player ever to come from this country and a giant of British sport,” said LTA chief executive Scott Lloyd.

“His contribution to the game is immense and has bought us all so many moments of pride. He was relentless in his pursuit of excellence and had a single-minded determination to succeed.

“Perhaps equal to his on-court success was his attitude in championing equality and diversity right across the sport. He is a special role model for tennis in this country and beyond and a unique champion. We are proud to name the arena at our tournament at the Queen’s Club after him.”

Murray is considered to be Britain’s best ever player owing to his two Wimbledon titles, 2012 US Open win, and two Olympic gold medals.
