France’s Professional Football League (LFP) has extended its partnership with rideshare app StadiumGO, which enables fans to carpool when travelling to matches in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

The LFP first partnered with StadiumGO in 2019 and the deal has been renewed for a sixth season. The partnership is designed to reduce fans’ environmental impact on match days and encourage them to share cars when driving to stadiums.

The LFP noted that spectator transport represents more than 60% of the carbon footprint of a football match. The governing body has been working with Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs to raise awareness of sustainable transport solutions for fans.

According to the LFP, 82% of professional clubs now offer a carpooling solution for fans, with more than 75% doing so via StadiumGO. The platform offers its users carpooling solutions dedicated exclusively to sporting events, both at home and away.

By the end of last season, 12 Ligue 1 clubs and 17 Ligue 2 clubs had partnered with StadiumGO. Nearly 25,000 supporters used the app in 2023-24, an increase of 37% on 2022-23.

Some 986,000 kilometres were travelled by carpooling fans last season, at an average journey of 250 kilometres. Some clubs that work with StadiumGO offer certain advantages to carpoolers, such as reserved car parking spaces.
