Scottish Premiership team Dundee FC has released a three-minute flythrough video and new images showcasing its proposed 12,500-seat stadium.
The new stadium has been designed by Holmes Miller Architects, and a planning application for the project was submitted in February. As well as hosting football matches, the stadium would stage music concerts and other major entertainment events.
The new flythrough video has been created by Holmes Miller, which has been working with the club, LJRH Architects and a wider team of consultants to shape the proposals in parallel with the planning application.
The video shows how the stadium can serve as a sustainable, all-electric and multi-functional venue for the city of Dundee. The stadium would be built in line with FIFA’s Green Goals initiative and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Sustainable features of the stadium include low-energy LED floodlights and screens, photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation, 100% recyclable seating, a ‘green roof’ to promote biodiversity, and rainwater re-harvesting.
The stadium would also include safe standing, a beerhall, and high-resolution video screens. Dundee City Council is set to decide on whether to grant the project planning permission later this year.
The wider stadium site would include a 140-room lifestyle hotel, a carbon-neutral residential development and a city crematorium, as well as the potential refurbishment and expansion of the existing Dundee ICE Arena.
Ian Cooney, project director at Holmes Miller, said: “We know fans of Dundee FC will be excited to see their club’s new home come to life in this video, but it’s also a development that will benefit the wider community by providing a high-quality mixed-use destination. As well as football matches, this new net-zero stadium will also be able to host a variety of civic, business, cultural, and concert events that the people of Dundee can enjoy.
“The masterplan is designed to encourage people to live locally and invest in their neighbourhood, as well as the wider city. The creation of a new public transport and cycle hub will also boost accessibility to what has historically been a car-led destination.”
John Nelms, director of Dark Blue Property Holdings Ltd, Dundee FC’s ownership group, added: “We hope the fans will be as excited as we were when we saw the animation of the new stadium. It was emotional seeing the work to this point brought to life using the latest technology that allows us to really imagine what it will be like making our way to a new state-of-the art stadium.
“In a way, it brings us a tantalising step closer to realising the dream and bringing the vision to life for our fans. As we’ve always said, we want the arena to be a crown jewel of the City of Dundee’s regeneration and it’s our intention to take our fans, the local community in general and all Scottish football fans on the journey with us.
“We continue our dialogue with the city’s planning department having submitted Planning Permission in Principle in February this year. The creation of this animation, updated images and accompanying FAQs will make sure everyone is informed as the process unfolds.”
