Liverpool has set a new league attendance record for Anfield after 60,107 fans watched Sunday’s 2-0 win over Brentford.
The figure beat the club’s previous record of 60,090, which was set in April for the meeting with Crystal Palace.
Following the redevelopment of the Anfield Road Stand, the stadium’s overall capacity has been expanded to 61,276 for the new season.
Work commenced on the Anfield Road Stand project in September 2021 but the expansion was hit by delays after Buckingham Group Contracting, which had been leading the £80m (€94.8m/$105.9m) redevelopment, entered administration in September last year.
The project has increased the capacity of Anfield from 54,000 to 61,000, but the delays meant that the stadium operated at a reduced capacity of 51,000 at the start of last season. A phased reopening of the stand was eventually announced in December last year.
In other news, Liverpool and Japan Airlines have announced the opening of the new Japan Airlines Lounge at Anfield.
Japan Airlines agreed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Liverpool in June and the new lounge opened ahead of Sunday’s match against Brentford.
The airline said the lounge, which features timbers, soft lighting and modern contemporary furnishings, will blend Japanese hospitality with the excitement of English football. The lounge occupies the former 1892 hospitality space.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Fulham fans were able to sample the next phase of the Riverside Stand development at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Supporters seated in the stand for Fulham’s 2-1 win over Leicester City were able to enter from either end of the ground, along the river walkway, with the Hammersmith river walk turnstiles also continuing to operate as they have for the last two seasons.
On the ground floor of the stand, fans could view the latest steps taken towards the Riverside Market. The space has been refreshed since the end of last season with new kiosks and bars.
Fans in the Riverside stand were also able to enjoy pre- and post-match entertainment, with pints of beer priced at £1 and soft drinks costing 50p until 2pm, one hour before kick-off. Live music and DJ performances were also organised, while the Dugout sports bar opened for the first time.
Back in March, Fulham unveiled details of new premium spaces as part of the redeveloped stand, with the club seeking to offer the “best matchday experience in English football”.
The most eye-catching part of the redevelopment is the Sky Deck experience, which is scheduled to open in December and will feature a swimming pool. Other experiences will include The Gourmet, which will offer fine dining inspired by Michelin Star chefs at the Water’s Edge restaurant.
The design of the new Riverside Stand was led by Populous and the project was undertaken in collaboration with a team from global engineering firm WSP. Work commenced on the new stand in the summer of 2019 and the lower tier opened for the 2022-23 season.
