Sheffield United has reopened the hotel that sits adjacent to the English Championship football club’s Bramall Lane stadium.

The hotel first opened in 2008 but had been shut since the summer of 2020 after United’s former owner, Kevin McCabe, transferred the building to current owner Prince Abdullah. A deal was agreed with DoubleTree by Hilton in June 2021 and redevelopment plans for the site were announced in March.

The new-look DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield City now features 155 guest rooms and an event space capable of accommodating up to 250 guests. Additional amenities include a fitness centre and the hotel’s signature dō deli bar and restaurant.

The property is owned by United and managed by leaf HOSPITALITY. The hotel’s reopening has also acted to boost the local economy, with the creation of 100 new jobs.

Stephen Bettis, CEO of Sheffield United, said: “Blades fans that are returning for the new season will notice a number of developments that will enhance the Bramall Lane experience and the new DoubleTree by Hilton is one that we are extremely proud of.

“There’s been extensive and meticulous planning and preparation, with plenty of hard work and cooperation between key stakeholders to get to this point. Football fans heading to S2 for matches, as well as wider visitors to Sheffield, will undoubtedly be impressed by the hotel and its facilities when visiting our historic home in the heart of the steel city.”
