Gdańsk Stadium has been made the home of the Polish women’s national football team for the next three years.

The venue has hosted matches at the 2012 UEFA European Championship, the 2021 Europa League final, and Polish men’s national team fixtures.

Now, following an agreement between Gdańsk Stadium, the city of Gdańsk, and the Polish Football Association, it will stage women’s international matches.

The decision is in line with the Polish FA’s plan to further women’s football in the country. Its Women’s Football Strategy 2022-2026 has worked to support and promote the sport.

“The development of women’s football is one of the four main pillars in the federation’s strategy,” said Polish FA president Cezary Kulesza.

“We are creating the best possible conditions for women’s football to gain the interest and prestige it deserves.

“Hence the decision to organize the European Under-19 Championship in 2025, as well as the World Under-20 Championship a year later.

“We are also applying to organize the senior European Championship in 2029. One of the steps to popularise women’s football is the selection of the stadium that will be the home of the Polish national team.

“We are very pleased that from today it has become Gdańsk.”

Gdańsk Stadium will play host to the Polish women’s team as its official home for the first time on October 29.

The side faces Romania in the first match of a two-legged tie as part of the qualification process for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Championship.

The Polish FA is hoping to break the attendance record for a women’s match in the country. The current record stands at 8,011 spectators and was set in 2021 in a game with Belgium that was also held at Gdańsk Stadium.

“The Polish women’s national team has gained a new home, but also incredible prestige,” said Polish women’s national team coach Nina Patalon.

“From now on, Gdańsk will be associated with women’s football, and all our fans will be there with us.

“This is another step in the development of women’s football in Poland and another initiative of the Polish Football Association, which confirms that ‘it’s time for us!’”.
