Home-shopping giant Japanet Holdings and its group company Regional Creation Nagasaki last Friday held a special ceremony celebrating the completion of the construction phase of Nagasaki Stadium City.

The much-anticipated multi-functional stadium and arena complex also includes a hotel, commercial areas such as a shopping mall, and office buildings.

At the Peace Stadium connected by SoftBank, the 20,000-seat football stadium that is the centrepiece of the complex, Akito Takata, the president and CEO of Japanet Holdings, thanked all those gathered to celebrate the special occasion.

“As we welcome the completion of Nagasaki Stadium City’s construction phase, I’d like to thank everyone gathered here for creating this wonderful facility,” Takata said. “Japanet Group has now received the baton from all of you, and we will do our best to present this complex to the people of Nagasaki, Japan, and the world.

“We promise to make this complex a special place of which all you gathered here would be proud to say that you built this magnificent complex.”

The representatives from the companies involved in the construction phase of Nagasaki Stadium Complex, including architects, construction companies and consulting firms, as well as their families totaling around 1,500 guests, were then invited to the complex’s indoor arena, the Happiness Arena, to enjoy a live performance by AI, a popular Japanese-American artist, and various events.

Nagasaki Velca, Japanet’s professional basketball team, is scheduled to play its first home match on October 4, while V-Varen Nagasaki, the professional football club, is due to play its inaugural home match on October 6. The opening event of the complex will be a live concert performed by Masaharu Fukuyama, a Nagasaki-born star, on October 13 before the complex officially opens the day after.
