Sports data and technology company Genius Sports has teamed up with the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams to roll out data-driven in-game highlights at SoFi Stadium.
During every Rams home game, immersive highlights leveraging the NFL’s Next Gen Stats data will be displayed on the Infinity Screen at SoFi Stadium.
The highlights will be powered by GeniusIQ, Genius Sports’ data and artificial intelligence platform, and will include stats such as player locaters and speeds, the time taken for the quarterback to throw, and a complete minimap of the game.
Telecommunications company Verizon, a long-time partner of the Rams, will be integrated at crucial times within the highlights, unlocking new augmented advertising inventory. Verizon’s logo and messaging will be promoted during the highlights.
GeniusIQ uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to translate large volumes of Next Gen Stats data into a “semantic” understanding of the NFL. The data is then used to power real-time insights and brand activations.
Kathryn Kai-ling Frederick, chief marketing officer for the Rams, said: “Since opening SoFi Stadium in 2020, we continuously look to team up with best-in-class companies to set the gameday standard at the Rams House. We are thrilled to work with Genius Sports to deliver this unprecedented experience to our fans and grateful to our partner Verizon for elevating this content.”
Steve Bornstein, president of Genius Sports in North America, added: “Connecting our partners and sports fans with the excitement of live sports through memorable experiences is intrinsic to our GeniusIQ offering.
“Our partnership with the Los Angeles Rams breaks new ground in sports fan engagement, combining immersive highlights and rich tracking insights for brands like Verizon. We’re delighted to showcase the enhanced value of Genius Sports with the NFL and the Rams.”
Earlier this year, Genius Sports partnered with Premier League football club Brentford to roll out data-driven highlights during games at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The partnership marked a first for the Premier League, with Genius providing replays with augmented highlights including shot speeds, shot trails, player names and pitch maps.
