Live Nation has been appointed to operate a music and entertainment venue that will be developed as part of Westcourt, a district that will be located adjacent to Kia Center, the home of NBA franchise the Orlando Magic.

The announcement of the live entertainment giant’s appointment was made yesterday (Tuesday) by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer at the Downtown Orlando Partnership’s State of Downtown event.

The new 3,500-seat venue will look to bring additional music and entertainment offerings to Westcourt. The City of Orlando in April granted final approval for the $500m (£383.7m/€459.1m) venture which intends to be an inclusive, vibrant community hub featuring the live entertainment venue, a full-service 260-key hotel, 265 residential units, office space, and a variety of dining and shopping options.

The development also includes a 1,140-stall parking garage and a 1.5-acre multipurpose outdoor ‘urban living’ room green space. The Magic, and partner SED Development, in October announced JMA Ventures and Machete Group as the team that will deliver the district, with the franchise having been plotting such a development for around a decade.

JMA and Machete will collaborate with Live Nation on the design of the entertainment venue, which is expected to host 125 events per year. To support the venue, Live Nation will create more than 300 permanent jobs with construction due to begin early next year ahead of an anticipated opening in 2027.

David Carlock, founder and principal of Machete Group, said: “We are excited to partner with Live Nation to bring a world-class live events venue to Westcourt. This collaboration underscores our commitment to delivering exceptional entertainment to the community and we are confident that the venue will become a cornerstone of Orlando’s cultural scene.”

Jordan Zachary, co-president of U.S. concerts at Live Nation, added: “Orlando is a vibrant market for live entertainment, and we’re honoured Westcourt chose Live Nation to operate the venue. We’re thrilled to bring more entertainment to Downtown as this venue will be a premier destination for top touring artists and music fans.”

Kimpton was selected as the hotel partner for the project in August, with TheStadiumBusiness.com finding out more about the venture from David Carlock, principal and founder at Machete Group, back in June.
