Regional Creation Nagasaki, the operating company of Nagasaki Stadium City, has held the sports and entertainment complex’s grand opening ceremony and various opening events.
The company’s official website also reported that a ribbon cutting ceremony took place involving the longest ribbon used for that purpose in Japan. At 5km in length, it required around 1,000 participants across five facilities – namely the stadium, indoor arena, hotel, office tower (stadium city north), and shopping mall (stadium city south). This was held before the complex’s tenant retail shops were all opened shortly after.
Akito Takata, the president and CEO of Japanet Holdings, the parent company of Regional Creation Nagasaki, said during the ceremony held on Monday: “We can finally say that the time of the Nagasaki Stadium City starts now but I think the important thing is that we keep providing more ‘out of the ordinary’ events like the one held yesterday (when the local-born artist Masaharu Fukuyama held the memorial concert).
“In Tokyo, you would have many opportunities to attend sport events after work. By creating a place where ‘out of the ordinary’ things like attending sport events and dining out become normality in ‘everyday life’ in Nagasaki, the people here will see the value of them as something they would look forward to in their life, and therefore Nagasaki will be a city where more children and residents prefer to live and stay.”
According to the company, more than 19,000 people came to attend the grand opening ceremony, and they were provided with various events, including the traditional Dragon Dance of the city’s Kago-machi area which is known for its craftsmen.
