Kosovan football club FC Ballkani has received the green light for a new stadium with a capacity of 6,518 seats.

The facility would replace Stadiumi i Qytetit të Suharekës as the home ground of the club, which is the defending champion of the Kosovo Superleague.

Conceptual designs for the stadium have been released and procurement procedures for the project will commence next year. The Municipal Assembly in the city of Suharekë has allocated a plot of 13 hectares to FC Ballkani for the project.

The stadium will be built to meet UEFA Category 2 standards. FC Ballkani’s current home has a capacity of 3,000.

Hajrulla Çeku, Kosovo’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, said that the new stadium will meet the “highest international standards”.

After winning the league last season, FC Ballkani qualified for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The team lost out to Santa Coloma of Andorra and dropped down to the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds, where it beat Hamrun of Malta before getting knocked out by Larne of Northern Ireland.

FC Ballkani was forced to play its European matches at Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri in Pristina as its current stadium does not meet UEFA standards.
