Qatar’s Stadium 974 and Lusail Stadium have been chosen to host the final three matches of this year’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup from December 11-18.
The competition features winners of the six continental championships in each FIFA confederation.
The first match on December 11 at the 44,089-seat Stadium 974 in Doha has been billed as the ‘Derby of the Americas’ with Mexican club Pachuca taking on the Brazilian winner of the Copa Libertadores final on November 30 – either Atlético Mineiro or Botafogo.
The victor of that match will then meet Egypt’s Al Ahly on December 14, again at the capital city’s Stadium 974, in the Challenger Cup, which will act as a playoff for the final where Spain’s Real Madrid awaits.
The UEFA Champions League winner will play for the trophy at the 88,966-capacity Lusail Stadium in Qatar’s second-largest city, which was the setting for the 2022 FIFA World Cup final.
Tickets for the remaining matches are set to go on an exclusive pre-sale tomorrow for Visa customers.
All tickets are electronic and will only be available to buy through the FIFA website with prices starting at QAR40 (£8.65/$11/€10) for the first game and QAR200 for the final.
The event’s local organising committee director of sales, marketing and communication Hassan Al Kuwari said that a total of 170,000 tickets will be available for all three matches.
“Once again Qatar is proud to host some of the world’s best clubs and the biggest stars in football,” he said at a press conference.
“Hosting the final match at Lusail Stadium on December 18 will be a wonderful way to mark the two-year anniversary of what is regarded as the best edition of the FIFA World Cup, and the best final match to date.
“We look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to experience what will be an electric atmosphere in fantastic world-class venues.
“As always, fans will be able to enjoy Qatar’s signature hospitality, amazing cultural offerings and incredible infrastructure for what will surely be a memorable and seamless experience.”
