St James’ Park, home of Premier League club Newcastle United, will once again host rugby league’s Magic Weekend in 2025.

The stadium has hosted the event on seven previous occasions, most recently in 2023. Elland Road in Leeds staged the 2024 edition but the event will return to Newcastle next May.

The Magic Weekend sees an entire round of Super League fixtures take place at the same venue over two days. Prior to this year’s event in Leeds, St James’ Park had hosted seven of the previous eight Magic Weekends, with the exception being the 2019 edition at Anfield.

Next year’s event will take place on May 3-4, with fans having two weeks to purchase tickets at a special early rate. Tickets will start from £30 (€36/$38) for one day and £45 for the weekend in Category 3, increasing to £45 and £65 for Category 2, £55 and £80 for Category 1, and £75 and £110 for Platinum.

Rhodri Jones, managing director of Rugby League Commercial, said: “We’re excited to confirm this return to St James’ Park and the city of Newcastle for the 18th Super League Magic Weekend in 2025.

“The feedback from our fans regarding a return to the North East has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have worked with Newcastle United and Newcastle City Council to identify the May Bank Holiday weekend as the ideal slot.

“The players of Super League have produced so many thrilling matches and moments in the decade since Magic Weekend was first played at St James’, and we look forward to more in 2025.”

Darren Eales, chief executive of Newcastle United, added: “The stadium and city have proven to be incredibly popular across previous Magic Weekend events, with fans of Super League clubs being joined by many more who are new to the sport. Together with our city partners, we look forward to welcoming the rugby league community back to the North East for an unforgettable weekend.”

The Magic Weekend has also been held at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, and Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
