English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion has announced plans to install safe standing at the American Express Stadium ahead of next season.
The safe standing area will be located in the North Stand of the stadium. More than 80% of season ticket holders, who are seated at the back of the stand, were in favour of safe standing.
The area will be installed from Row R backwards. Season ticket holders who are currently seated in the new safe standing area but wish to move will be offered a priority move window next March.
Brighton said that a small section of rail seating will be in place at the stadium, with more details to be released shortly. The club noted that seats in the new safe standing area will not be removed but will be fitted with a rail in front of it.
The capacity of the Amex will not increase, and ticket prices will not be reduced following the introduction of the safe standing.
Jenny Gower, head of ticketing and supporter services at Brighton, said: “I’d like to thank the season ticket holders for their feedback. We had a fantastic response to our survey and a very strong majority in favour of installing safe standing towards the back of the North Stand.
“We will help any season ticket holders who want to move and the impact of safe standing will be regularly reviewed, but we are confident it will make the atmosphere in the North Stand even better and help Fabian Hurzeler and the team.”
Brighton is the latest Premier League club to announce plans for safe standing areas. Nottingham Forest introduced safe standing sections at the City Ground ahead of this season, while Liverpool has also rolled out further rail seating at Anfield. AFC Bournemouth also introduced safe standing last season.
