World Padel Academy has opened up a landmark facility at One Call Stadium, the home of League One football club Mansfield Town.

WPA becomes the first United Arab Emirates-based padel brand to expand internationally. Mansfield received approval to develop the facility back in August.

The £1m (€1.2m/$1.3m) development was approved by the local council after first being proposed in November 2023. The facility is located southwest of One Call Stadium on a plot of currently unused land.

The development forms part of a wider £10m investment by WPA to promote the sport in the UK. WPA also operates padel courts across the UAE and Bahrain.

The Mansfield facility will introduce WPA’s coaching methodologies, professional programmes and community-driven initiatives to a new audience. Bookings will start from as little as £6 per person.

The facility will feature four new padel courts alongside a clubhouse containing a reception, a food and beverage outlet and a retail store.

WPA chief executive Ali Al Arif said: “As an Emirati company, we are proud to be the first in the region to take padel to an international audience. This achievement showcases our dedication to promoting the sport and strengthening ties between the UAE and the global padel community.”

Andy Abrahams, Mayor of Mansfield, added: “Welcoming World Padel Academy to Mansfield is an exciting step for our town. This partnership will not only bring a new sport to our community but also foster cultural exchange and strengthen our local economy. We look forward to seeing the positive impact WPA will have on our residents and our town.”
