Argentine Primera División football club, Newell’s Old Boys, has announced it will introduce pitch-level VIP boxes as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Estadio Marcelo Bielsa.
The West VIP Boxes will be located in the stadium’s Visera stand. Some 22 exclusive boxes will be introduced in the Amelia section of the stand. Each box will be 25 square metres in size and will have capacity for up to 10 people.
Newell’s said their design “combines elegance, exclusivity and comfort”, including modern furniture, a minibar, air conditioning and an open-air area so that fans can experience the match at pitch level. In addition, the project will have a hospitality space designed for events and receptions.
The club added: “The new boxes are designed to offer a direct connection to the Coloso pitch. Thanks to their strategic location, at pitch level, those who access them will be able to experience the matches as true protagonists.
“Construction of the new boxes is scheduled to begin in early December 2024, with an estimated completion date of March 2025. Newell’s once again reinforces its commitment to the constant improvement of our home, the Coloso Marcelo Bielsa.”
Newell’s announced the start of construction work to expand the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa back in December 2023. The Rosario-based club said that the work would focus on a second tier for the north stand and increase the stadium’s overall capacity from 42,000 to 49,000.
Estadio Marcelo Bielsa is named after renowned coach Bielsa, who started both his playing and coaching career at Newell’s. The stadium first opened in 1911 and last underwent a major renovation in 1997, taking its capacity to 42,000.
In November 2022, Newell’s presented plans for the complete redevelopment of the stadium. The project, which was drawn up by architect and Newell’s fan Mario Corea, was due to be carried out in four stages, with the ultimate vision of expanding the capacity to 65,000 within four years.
