Dame Katherine Grainger has been appointed as the new chair of the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Grainger (pictured), who won a rowing medal at five successive Olympics, becomes the first female chair of the organisation since its establishment in 1905. Her initial four-year term will commence after the completion of her second and final term as chair of UK Sport in early 2025.
Grainger will replace Sir Hugh Robertson as chair of the BOA. Robertson has been in the role for nine years.
The Australian Olympic Committee has announced that chief executive Matt Carroll will leave the organisation following its annual general meeting in May.
The AOC said the timing of the announcement will enable it to appoint Carroll’s successor ahead of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics in 2026. The AOC will run a global search for the next chief executive, with the formal recruiting process to begin in January.
World Rugby has announced the appointment of Louise Evans to its newly confirmed executive board as an independent director and chair of the audit and risk committee.
The appointment follows confirmation of a new board structure, featuring elected officers, independent directors and player representation. The board is charged with directing World Rugby’s growth strategy, with a focus to be placed on fans, commercial, the women’s game, events, and breaking into new markets.
Mark Thompson has left his role as chief executive of Premiership rugby union team Saracens by mutual consent.
Thompson joined Saracens 10 months ago, having previously served as chief operating officer at Premier League football club Burnley. Hamish Wilson has also joined Saracens as chief operating officer.
Merlin Entertainments, which operates theme parks and tourist attractions, has revealed that its chief executive Scott O’Neil will step down at the end of 2024, as he has accepted another opportunity.

The Athletic has reported that O’Neil is set to replace LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman, who will take on another role. Norman was a major factor in the launch of the breakaway golf series.
