Real Madrid has said that it is “not in a position” to confirm any dates for future concerts at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu after Spanish singer Lola Indigo announced that she would perform at the venue on June 14.

Indigo had been due to perform at the stadium on March 22, but in September Real Madrid was forced to reschedule upcoming concerts at the venue to comply with local noise pollution regulations.

At the time, Real Madrid said that compliance with municipal regulations had been affected despite soundproofing work that has been carried out at the stadium. A show from Dellafuente on November 15 was also postponed, along with Aitana gigs scheduled for December 28 and 29.

In a post on social media, Indigo has revealed that she will now perform at the stadium on June 14, but the club has disputed this in a statement released on its website.

The statement read: “At the present time, the club is not in a position to confirm any dates for the holding of concerts at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu until the relevant tests are carried out to ensure that the promoters of the concerts will be in a position to comply with the regulations, once the measures put in place in coordination with public administrations have been implemented.”

The club added: “We would like to reiterate that Real Madrid is working actively, together with the Comunidad de Madrid and the Madrid City Council, for sustainability and coexistence, so that the activities at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu are carried out with full respect, not only for the law, but also for the environment and the neighbourhood.”

In October, Real Madrid and Madrid City Council strenuously denied claims that the club is operating the stadium without a valid licence. Both parties spoke out against “categorically false information” presented by the Asociación Vecinal de Perjudicados por el Bernabéu (Neighbourhood Association of People Affected by the Bernabéu) in Spanish media reports.

The residents’ group filed an appeal to a Madrid court accusing Real of presenting the Comunidad de Madrid with a licence dated 2001, now expired, in order to secure the necessary approvals to host concerts at the Bernabéu this summer.

The claim was filed after the same group recently had a complaint accepted by the same court against the Real Madrid Estadio company and the club’s general manager, José Ángel Sánchez Periáñez, for an environmental crime due to the stadium exceeding the noise limits permitted by law.

Speaking last month at its general assembly meeting, Real president Florentino Pérez reiterated the club’s stance, stating: “It is inconceivable that we have to read in some toxic digital media that the Bernabéu does not even have a licence to hold football matches. Organising concerts is not a particularly lucrative activity for the club. We simply rent out the stadium and I want you to know that the income from this concept would be around 1% of our annual budget.”

Real Madrid has been hosting more concerts at the Bernabéu after the stadium underwent a huge transformation project, which included the installation of a retractable roof and a multi-purpose pitch. Taylor Swift performed two sold-out gigs at the stadium in May, while Karol G and Luis Miguel also held shows at the stadium over the summer.
