Argentinian football club River Plate has launched a new facial recognition technology for fans entering its Estadio Mâs Monumental.

The FaceID system will enable supporters to gain quick, secure, and ticketless entry to the 84,567-capacity venue by registering their face.

The project is in partnership with biometric technology and digital identity company Veridas and includes the installation of 300 FaceID terminals.

“River Plate is synonymous with innovation. With the FaceID system, our fans will enjoy faster, safer, and more convenient access to the Mâs Monumental,” said River Plate secretary general Stefano Di Carlo.

“This initiative strengthens our commitment to delivering the best experience for the River family and establishes our stadium as a global benchmark for sporting events.”

The first terminals are set to be installed later this month before full deployment is scheduled to be complete by February 2025.

The club claims that the new entry system will offer fans unprecedented convenience, maximum security, and unmatched speed.

The technology ensures that only registered fans can gain entry which prevents fraud and unauthorised access while it is able to verify identities in less than a second.

Fans are required to complete a 10-second registration via their mobile phone to confirm their identity in order for the system to work for them on match days.

“It is an honour to collaborate with a club as prestigious as River Plate,” said Veridas chief executive Eduardo Azanza.

“Our robust, efficient, and secure solution ensures an unparalleled experience for fans. This partnership sets a new standard for how football is experienced in Argentina and beyond.”
