Generator Studio, a Kansas City-based architecture and interior design firm which oversaw the landmark CPKC Stadium project, has announced the expansion of its leadership team with the addition of Peter Baird, Christina Franklin and Andrew Kesel.

The three join co-founders Tom Proebstle and Mike Kress on the ownership team, with the announcement marking the first change to Generator Studio’s ownership in its 15-year history.

CPKC Stadium, which opened in March, is home to Kansas City Current of the National Women’s Soccer League. It is the world’s first stadium purpose-built for a professional women’s sports team.

The expansion of Generator Studio’s ownership will take effect on January 1, with the firm stating that the additions will “usher in a new era”. Baird, Kesel and Franklin have each contributed directly to Generator Studio’s growth, working on projects such as CPKC Stadium, Academy Bank’s headquarters, and the new Riverside Amphitheater.

Baird has been with the company for nearly 12 years and is the longest-serving employee at the firm. Kesel joined Generator Studio over eight years ago and serves as its director of architecture, while Franklin has worked as the company’s director of interior design for four years.

Kress said: “The leadership of Christina, Andrew, and Peter has played a large role in our success and their voices will shape our direction – now and in the future. They fully capture the spirit of Generator. We couldn’t have designed it any better as they have the ideal balance of diverse but complementary talents in this new ownership team.”

Proebstle added: “It couldn’t be a better time to celebrate and recognise the people who have helped shape the Generator Studio you see today. These three in particular have their fingerprints all over Generator, and we are fundamentally different because of their leadership and the culture they’ve helped create.”

CPKC Stadium has a capacity of 11,500 and was built at a cost of $117m (£92m/€111m), the majority of which was privately funded via club ownership.

A month after the CPKC Stadium opened, KC Current announced plans for a wide-ranging mixed-use district around the venue. Last month, the stadium hosted the NWSL Championship game.
