FC Barcelona has presented a sustainable mobility plan for fans entering and exiting the new-look Spotify Camp Nou, with the stadium set to partially reopen in 2025.

The plan has been drawn up in collaboration with Barcelona City Council and aims to make it easier for local residents to access their homes on match days.

Barcelona’s return to the Camp Nou will be staggered, with the first phase to see the stadium operate at around 60% of its expected final capacity, which will equate to around 65,000 fans.

The stadium had a capacity of 99,000 before the renovation project and will be able to seat around 105,000 fans once the work is fully complete. Barcelona has not yet confirmed when it will return to the Camp Nou, but the club announced last month that it would continue playing at the Estadi Olímpic Lluis Companys until at least early February.

Barcelona has advised that around 36.5% of fans (23,695 people) attending the partially reopened Camp Nou will travel to the stadium on foot. The club is anticipating that 16,843 fans travel by car, 11,160 by metro, 3,883 by motorcycle, 3,300 by coach, 3,042 by bus, 1,500 by tram, and 1,296 by taxi.

The sustainable mobility plan for the partial reopening of the stadium is structured around the different modes of transport, with particular attention given to pedestrians, who will represent the largest proportion of supporters.

The plan also ensures local residents can always access their home using any mode of transport, including private vehicles. One of the requests of local residents was to set up controls over access to certain residential areas, including Carrer Mejía Lequerica and around Carrer Felipe de Paz.

Within a 1.5km radius of the stadium, there will be parking places for 8,000 cars in underground car parks, plus 1,500 places on public highways. There will be around 3,000 places for motorcycles, 2,000 of which will only be available on match days.

Barcelona has been playing at the Estadi Olímpic since the start of the 2023-24 season while redevelopment work is carried out at the Camp Nou. UEFA regulations prevent clubs from changing stadiums during the group phase of the Champions League, meaning that Barcelona is committed to playing these games at the Estadi Olímpic until January 29, when it hosts Atalanta.

Owing to the logistical difficulties and additional costs involved in maintaining two high-capacity facilities at the same time, Barcelona has chosen to play all its home league matches at the Estadi Olímpic until the Champions League group stage has concluded.

As a result, LaLiga matches against Valencia on January 26 and Deportivo Alavés on February 2 will be played at the Estadi Olímpic. Barcelona’s next scheduled home match after that is against Rayo Vallecano on February 16, although the club could have a Copa del Rey quarter-final on February 5.

The Camp Nou is on track to be fully ready by 2026.
