Sphere Entertainment has appointed Marcus Ellington as executive vice-president of ad sales and sponsorships for the Sphere venue in Las Vegas.
Ellington will manage client relations across Sphere’s marquee assets, including the Exosphere, the venue’s fully programmable LED exterior. Ellington will drive new brand-centric opportunities for the Exosphere, including experiential activations such as drone shows.
Reporting to Sphere president and chief operating officer Jennifer Koester, Ellington will also be responsible for developing broader Sphere-wide marketing partnerships. He joins Sphere from Google, where he held sales and partnership roles, most recently serving as director of Americas partnerships solutions.
Major League Baseball has announced that Uzma Rawn Dowler has been promoted to chief marketing officer.
Rawn will start the position in January and will report to MLB’s deputy commissioner of business and media, Noah Garden. Rawn has worked at MLB for the past 10 years and most recently held the title of senior vice-president of global corporate partnerships.
Rawn will replace Karin Timpone, who recently announced her departure from MLB.
English Premier League club Nottingham Forest has appointed Lina Souloukou as its new chief executive.
Souloukou will take up the new role on January 5. Souloukou formerly served as chief executive of Serie A club AS Roma.
The Dallas Mavericks NBA team has appointed Rick Welts as its new chief executive.
Welts (pictured left) will assume the role on January 1 and will replace Cynt Marshall, who has served as chief executive for nearly seven years.
Welts previously served as president and chief operating officer of the Golden State Warriors, president of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury, and as the NBA’s senior vice-president, chief marketing officer and president of NBA Properties.
Connacht Rugby has announced the appointment of Sinéad Cassidy to the new role of general manager at Dexcom Stadium.
Cassidy (pictured centre) has spent the past eight years at Galway Races, initially as sales and marketing manager and later as director of marketing and communications. In her new role, she will be responsible for the operational management of Dexcom Stadium and the soon-to-be-completed High Performance Centre.
Jo Upward has started a new position as strategy and development director at Levy.
Upward joins Levy from the Institute of Customer Service, where she worked for 17 years as vice-president. At Levy, she will serve as strategy and development director.
World Table Tennis has announced the appointment of Mounir Bessah as the new executive director of WTT Events.
Bessah will begin the role on January 1 and will lead the strategic planning and execution of WTT’s global events portfolio. He joins WTT from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), where he served as deputy secretary general.
Australian Football League (AFL) team Collingwood has appointed Barry Carp as its new president.
Carp (pictured right) is the founder of River Capital, a fund management and investment business, and has served on the Collingwood board since 2021.
